Feature Presentation for April 9th:
"This is Your Life"
Jim Honeycutt
Instructor in Astronomy
Oxford College of Emory University

Jim's informative presentation began with some background in the study of physics and astronomy, including the Doppler effect, basic spectroscopy and the spectral classifications of stars.

With the basics covered, Jim took his audience from the formation of proto-stars condensed out of interstellar dust (with the help of shockwaves from a friendly neighborhood star or distant supernova) to the complex states of equilibrium stars of various masses go through during their lives.

From proto-stars to pulsars and evidence for black holes, Jim's presentation was an excellent introduction to the strange lives of stars and the life of our own sun, which will ultimately determine the fate of our solar system and our lives on Earth.

Thanks Jim for and excellent presentation!
