April 2006 Chapter Meeting

Our meeting was relatively short this month, without a feature presentation.  Larry Owens gave an update on the CE fund raiser and other chapter projects.  Then Steve Bieger and Clevis Jones presented "What's Up" and "Current Events", both excellent as usual.  Later that evening, some chapter members remained to watch a documentary video on the 1968 Apollo 8 mission to orbit the moon.  Then it was off to the observing field under clear skies to watch the international space station cross Orion, then on through Ursa Minor and out of view.

A Special Note:  Chapter member Jim Honeycutt presented the chapter with a donation!  A 12.5" Coulter Optics mirror and secondary, complete with cells.  Steve Bieger volunteered to build a Dobsonian telescope to accommodate the mirrors.  Larry Owens volunteered to raise the funds and have the primary and secondary mirrors recoated.  Thank you Jim!

Also:  Many thanks to Ken Poshedly who thoughtfully provided snacks and coffee (almost) for the meeting!

Jim Honeycutt's donation.  As you can see the mirror needs to be recoated, but otherwise looks to be in great shape.  It will make an excellent scope for the chapter.

Ken Poshedly saluting with a Fig Newton.  Many thanks to Ken for the snacks!

Steve Bieger, presenting "What's Up" for this month.
