Feature Presentation for June 4, 2005:
"CCD Imaging"
Jerry Armstrong

Jerry started his presentation with a discussion of equipment used with CCD imaging, "From the EL-CHEAP-O to the OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE".

As Jerry explained, he uses 2 CCD cameras, an SBIG ST1001A and an ST8E.  For optics, he uses a refractor for wide angle imaging with the ST8E and a Meade 14" LX200GPS for going really deep with the ST1001A.

Jerry presented images of the planets, numerous comets, planetary nebula, galaxies and even near Earth asteroids, that he has imaged over the many years he has been involved in astronomy.  Jerry also included his co-discovery image of the 1995 super nova in M51.

Here, Jerry shows his image of comet MachHolz as it passed the Pleiades cluster on January 9th of this year.  Jerry captured one of the few images of the comet's very faint ion tail that evening.

Jerry attracted a very interested and enthusiastic group.  After the presentation, Jerry answered questions and continued to talk with attendees for nearly an hour.

Thanks Jerry for an excellent presentation!
